Bio festival has been a cornerstone of the Czech Republic's underground psychedelic culture for over two decades, gathering creative souls from across Europe since the early 2000s. This legendary gathering evolved through various iterations, each maintaining the distinctive community spirit and artistic vision that made it one of Central Europe's most important psytrance festivals.
The kind of visionary people you encounter here – from veteran DJs who consider Bio performances career milestones to land art artists who understand the festival's mystical locations – remains the festival's most treasured feature. I had the honor of creating the poster for this Brazilian-themed edition.
This ”Bio de Janeiro“ incarnation transported attendees on an incredible journey through psychedelic Brazil – from samba sessions and elaborate Carnival parade processions with thundering drums, to mesmerizing fire-show performances and dancing crowds adorned in vibrant psychedelic costumes. Two massive tents showcased stunning Amazonian-style decorations, while forest rain tribe body-painting transformed festival-goers into living art.
True to Bio's tradition of inventive programming, the playful spirit extended to unique Olympic-style games including UV-goodminton, 110-meter hurtless runs, synchronized swimming in laser pools, high junk competitions, disorienting treasure hunts, and encounters with various redemptive Jesuses.
A dedicated chill stage featured psy-cinema screenings, daytime workshops and lectures, plus a special offspring area complete with baby-disco carnival vibes – continuing Bio's legacy of creating fairy-tale atmospheres that blur the boundaries between reality and psychedelic imagination.
